Probate is a document that gives you the legal authority to manage someone’s estate. It allows executors to close accounts, settle debts, distribute estates and more, in accordance to the instructions in someone’s will.
If there is a will, the named executor(s) are responsible for obtaining probate. If there is no will, the closest living relative can apply for a ‘grant of letters of administration’.

Probate Solicitors fees vary and it will depend on what you use them for. They may offer a fixed fee for applying for probate, and full administration is typically charged as a percentage of the overall estate, which is around 1.5%.
